1992 CA and NV talked. NV would have
jurisdiction because I showed overwhelmingly that my ex was a resident of Vegas.
My ex was told to drop the CA divorce action. Instead he
pulled a dirty trick in CA court, not telling this judge about CA and NV
already talking, lying to her while I wasn't present about my income, his
income, telling her that I agreed to 2 years of $232 a month spousal support, and got
an order in CA.
The CA attorney who promised me action for free did
nothing for 6 months. I finally got the judge's fax # and e-mailed her my story.
She investigated. What he did wasn't illegal, just unethical, because I had been
notified of the court date. She was OJ Simpson's judge and I did feel heard by
her and treated fairly. $368 a month in child support had been assigned in CA, instead of
the $580 a month NV assigned. I didn't have any money to get to CA and fight
it.
A year and a half later my new boyfriend
lent me $2000 to get an attorney to get the CA action dropped. I learned that if
I had been in CA court and left jurisdiction with them, I would have been
receiving $1600 a month between spousal and child support, spousal for a 20 year
marriage is lifetime, or until I remarried. Spousal of $420 a month in NV was for 3 years.
My ex had screwed himself to a certain extent by getting an order in
CA.
I was making $14,000
a year (if the kids and I didn't get sick). My ex was making $42,000 a year. KK, his girlfriend made $56,000 a
year, owned the 4bdrm Laguna Hills home, and had no kids.
There was a sub
for the judge who knew about my case. The sub sternly told my attorney immediately,
"You aren't getting anywhere with this counselor!" He wasn't about to
decide on a case already decided by a previous judge. My attorney felt so
bad. I could see how much preparation he'd put into it - the file was almost a
foot deep, filled with his post-it notes so he could find what he wanted.
The time limit was
then up for me to get CA to drop their order.
